His parents moved from Mauritania to France to get better lives and jobs and gave birth to Ousmane Dembélé a few years after settling into the country. This means Dembélé is of French nationality.

His football journey is greatly centred around his mother. When he was six, he joined his mother in travelling from his birthplace Vernon to Rennes, France, to meet his uncle Sambagué. He also happened to be a footballer and a role model to Ousmane Dembélé.

According to The Guardian, Fatimata Dembélé is highly influential in his son’s football career. All the football clubs must go through her for negotiations, contract signing, and Ousmane’s future decisions.

She is assisted by her brother and Ousmane Dembele’s uncle Sambagué who is his agent. The footballer’s uncle gave him lessons and trained him, leading to him starting his youth career at Madeleine Évreux in 2004.
