Sandile was born and raised by middle-class parents in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, in 1967. Through hard work and relentless determination, Zungu worked his way up to create a thriving business empire that continues to flourish.

The celebrated business tycoon is not only the owner of AmaZulu FC, but he also owns several investment companies. He is a vice chancellor and holds several executive positions.

The business mogul doubles as the owner and the president of the Zungu Investments Co. (ZICO). This is a multi-million-dollar minerals and energy business he started at 30, with the help of his late wife Zodwa, shortly after he graduated with his MBA.

Zungu also owns the ambient Zunguness Wedding and Conference Center. The five-star wedding planning and events venue is at the Kwa-Zulu Natal Midlands. 

The company has gained lots of attraction from celebrities and prominent people, wrecking in even more money.

Sandile has also engaged in other business ventures, such as the gaming company called Crazy Slots, which he later sold to Goldrush.

Zungu has several academic qualifications, and his star of success started shining early in life when he was in school. 

The business magnate went to Vukuzakhe High School, where he passed well enough to be given a scholarship by Shell for his undergraduates.

He then joined the UCT, where he studied BSC in Mechanical Engineering and completed it successfully in 1988. Sandile returned to UCT School of Business, where he graduated with an MBA in 1995.

To crown his academic achievement, in 2000, Sandile Zungu became an alumnus of the Harvard School of Business in Boston after obtaining a certificate in Global Leadership program. 

Zungu continues to expand his educational horizons as he believes it’s important to success.

Zungu’s star started to shine early in life. Immediately after graduating with an engineering degree, he started working with big companies like Richards Bay Minerals and Engen.

After working in this field for six years, Sandile felt the need to change their career and was quickly drawn towards business and marketing. 

He went ahead and started his own investment company ZICO which he nurtured until its current growth.

Besides acquiring AmaZhulu FC in 2020, Sandile is a man of many hats and chairs several positions. He was appointed Vice-chancellor of Mangosuthu University of Technology in 2022.

He also chairs the Black Business Council and the EOH Holdings, he is a non-executive director of Grindrod Limited and Novus Holdings, among others.

Sandile Zungu’s mansions and luxurious cars

Although Zungu does not like to show off his wealth in a flashy and extravagant lifestyle, the business mogul still lives a comfortable and classic lifestyle.

The Zico president lives in a modern mega mansion in Durban with an elegantly decorated living room. He credits this to his late wife, Zodwa, who ensured the living room always had a warm and elegant feel.

The Durban mansion is just one of Sandile Zungu’s houses, as he has several other mansions. In one of his Instagram posts in 2019, Sandile shared that he had built a modern mansion at 8 King Fisher Crescent, Albert Town.

According to the mansion’s structural design, he must have spent a fortune to construct it. Sandile Zungu’s cars also show his taste for good cars.

He has been spotted driving some of the most luxurious and modern cars, from Mercedes Benz CLA to BMW 760 li to Bently Continental GT.

Sandile Zungu is one of the millionaires who own football clubs in South Africa. As an avid sports fan, Sandile purchased AmaZhulu FC from Dr. Patrick Sokhela in 2020. 

According to Sandile, the team was ushered into one of its most successful seasons shortly after he acquired the club.

The new AmaZhulu FC boss Sandile Zungu celebrated the club after they finished second in the CAF Champions League in the 2020/21 season.
