Malik Scott was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, on October 16, 1980. He is an American national of African-American ethnicity.
Scott’s father, Leroy Marcellus Scott, was a street gangster who was once incarcerated for ten years for armed robbery. His mother, Rome Davis, used to work for Philco Ford.
He was raised mostly by his mother, with his father having been in prison for most of his childhood.
As a kid, Malik often spent time in the streets, forcing his mother to call Fred Jenkins, a neighborhood gym owner, to find him (Scott).
In an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer, the former boxer revealed that he was a skinny kid from North Philadelphia trying to act tough and looking to sell drugs.

He is a former professional boxer turned coach
After he started boxing as a kid, Malik Scott had an exemplary amateur career.
He won several competitions in his youth, such as the Junior Olympic Championships, Under-19 Junior World Championships, and the 1998 American Boxing Classic title.
Scott turned professional in 2000. Between 2000 and 2016, he competed in 42 bouts, winning 38, drawing once, and only losing thrice.
