Bianca Westwood worked for Sky Sports as a sports presenter on Soccer Saturday. Until her departure, she was a legend in the football news industry and recognized by many in the show.
After working for Sky Sports for 22 years, she announced her departure by posting her new role at talkSport as a sports reporter.
So, what happened to Bianca Westwood? Here’s a look into her achievements at Sky Sports and her new job at talkSport.
Bianca worked for Sky Sports for over two decades
How long has Bianca Westwood been on Sky Sports? The broadcaster worked at Sky Sports for over two decades before leaving in August 2023.
She was a sports presenter on Soccer Saturday alongside co-presenter Jeff Stelling, with whom she exchanged verbal jabs on air.
When Stelling announced his exit from the sports channel at the end of the previous season, Westwood followed suit during the summer.
The news reporter was the first female to present Soccer Saturday
One of Bianca Westwood’s career achievements was that she was the first female to host and present on Soccer Saturday, a sports show dominated by male presenters on Sky Sports.
She has also covered thousands of football games and interviewed hundreds of football managers and players.
Before working for Sky Sports, she began her career as a Trade Support for Nat West Stockbrokers. Her responsibilities included answering queries on corporate actions and commission costs.
The sports presenter later moved to JP Morgan, where she worked as a settlement clerk, and Morgan Stanley as the UK European Equity Trade Support.
She provided administrative support to more than 35 traders until she realized her passion was in journalism and sports.
As a result, Bianca joined Sky Sports in 2000 as a broadcaster and worked there for more than two decades. She started as a runner and worked as a producer and editorial assistant for ten years on What a Weekend and NFL shows.
While at Sky Sports, she was also an assistant producer on athletic and tennis games and eventually became a Sky Sports news presenter.
Additionally, the broadcaster has been a presenter for the Take It Like A Fan show and a touchline reporter for the NFL International Series at Wembley.
With over 22 years of experience, she was a legend for Sky Sports and the football broadcasting industry.
So what happened to Bianca Westwood on Sky Sports?
Unfortunately, Bianca was a casualty of Sky Sports’ cost-cutting measures on its football presenting team.
When she left Soccer Saturday, some colleagues, such as Guy Havord, Greg Whelan, Jaydee Dyer, Dickie Davis, and Jaydee Dyer, left after her.
This massive layoff was due to changes at Sky Sports, which also led to the cancellation of the long-running show Soccer AM.
Westwood now works as a news reporter for talkSport
Where is Bianca Westwood now? The sports reporter now works as a news reporter at Sky Sports’ rival broadcaster, talkSport. She took that route after Sky Sports axed most of its broadcasters and presenters after the last season.
The Sky Sports legend explains that she left Sky Sports because of a raft of budget cuts. She also adds that she has not made enough money to retire but is retiring from Sky Sports and Soccer Saturday.
The sports presenter is working alongside Adrian Durham
Where does Bianca work? The broadcaster is currently working for talkSport. She posted on Twitter that she was debuting for a new team that night. She also said she was excited to work alongside Adrian Durham in Adams Park.
Her arrival at talkSport came after the departure of former Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling. He had replaced Laura Woods on the talkSport Breakfast Show.
Stelling and Bianca are set to work together again for the An Evening with Jeff Stelling tour, which will run from January to February next year.
What happened to Bianca Westwood on Sky Sports was due to the company’s raft of budget cuts. However, the sports presenter has moved on to her new role with talkSport.
